Ezra 1:1 - 4:24

For seventy years the Israelites stayed, captive in Babylon's land.
But God said, through Jeremiah, I will raise up myself a man.

A man who will rule the whole wide world. King Cyrus will worship me.
I will move his heart to restore the land and set my people free.

He will send them back to rebuild my house and return the silver and gold.
The bowls and vessels Nebuchadnezzar took, as the prophets of old foretold.

From every tribe and province, more than forty-two thousand began.
With servants and horses, camels and mules, to return to their promised land.

They set up the altar and worshipped God and worked on the temple and wall.
To rebuild Jerusalem was their goal. A city with towers tall.

But the nations around remembered the past. How strong Jerusalem was.
They sent to the king in Persia, and stirred up quite a buzz.

Search the history scrolls and see for yourself. When Jerusalem's strength becomes great,
They rise up and conquer. They'll rebel against you. Stop them now, before it's too late.

Artaxerxes the king of Persia, believed this evil report.
He wrote a letter and certified that, the building should be cut short.

Now during the reign of Darius, the Jews would have no such thing.
When their enemies saw they were building again, they quickly told the king.

So Darius made a royal command, to search if Cyrus decreed,
to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem and they found it was so indeed.
